Hi, I’m Krystal. That’s Krystal with a K.
People like to tell me all the time that I’m amazing...an inspiration...their greatest accomplishment in life. Oh wait, did I say people? I meant my mom. My mom says that. It’s probably because I’m her only child and she has nothing to compare me to, but I like to think it’s because I’m fucking hilarious and a go-getter.
Born and raised in Northwest Indiana, I grew up in a small town that has more corn than people. After briefly leaving that small town to pursue a college education at Indiana University (go Hoosiers!), I returned and began my career in the world of hospitality design. Though mostly happy with my job, I was pretty dissatisfied with a future of rural living. A work commute that would forever be views of cow pastures and that one waterpark where I once almost swallowed a band-aid? No, thank you. Pass.
So I decided to move. To a city. A city where I knew no one and had never visited in my entire life. More specifically: Dallas, Texas. I came here with nothing but my car and a small trailer full of my clothes, some towels, and a few necessary housewares. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.
But who am I, other than a small town hopeful trying to make it in the big city? I’m just a basic white girl that spends her time perpetuating all the stereotypes: single, obsessed with dogs, enjoys traveling almost as much as she loves pizza and wine. You know, the sort of thing you’d read on a Tinder profile. Other fun facts about me include:
I started this blog during the summer of 2010 when I was procrastinating a chemistry paper.
I've auditioned for Jeopardy. Clearly, I was not meant to be the next Ken Jennings.
I once met Nicole Franzel (two time Big Brother contestant and Season 18 winner) at an airport food court. I was hilariously awkward AF and ran away.
I have a pretty severe bird phobia (“ornithophobia" is the technical term). It’s a long story, and one I’ll probably share.
I design things. Hotel and restaurant interiors, to be exact.
I’m an avid Pokemon Go player. I’m on level 30, and I’ll probably never catch the regionally locked characters. It’s the one thorn in my side that keeps me from sleeping peacefully at night.
This blog has evolved many times over the years - it started as a place where I posted all my DIY projects and then became a place where I posted the recipes I was cooking up in my college apartment kitchen. Now, I just want it to be the place where I can unleash all the crazy shit that lives inside my head - no rules, no strict format I’ve set for myself, just fun. Welcome to my life.
